AAKP 2019 National Patient Meeting – Meet the Planning Committee: Nancy Uhland, NP

By Trevor Wymer, AAKP Communications Intern

Nancy Uhland, NP is a family nurse practitioner that specializes in Nephrology for George Washington Medical Faculty Associates. Part of Nancy’s job is to care for many kidney patients, from pre-dialysis to post-transplant. Prior to her current job, Nancy was a Living Donor Coordinator who worked with nephrologists to evaluate people who wanted to be living donors

In 2018, she was awarded AAKP’s Medal of Excellence in the Nursing Category.  Because of her dedication to the patients and the kidney community, Nancy was invited to be part of the planning committee for the 2019 National Patient Meeting, celebrating AAKP’s 50th anniversary.  Nancy says that she is grateful to be a part of such an important organization.

Nancy's especially excited for this year’s National Patient Meeting’s breakout sessions where the patients will be able to learn about specific topics that are important to them in a small group setting. The breakout sessions will allow patients to get information and ask questions that may not be covered in detail during regular doctor visits.

She is also excited to help AAKP celebrate its 50-year anniversary. She hopes that everyone has time to reflect on just how much AAKP has accomplished for patients and the kidney community in terms of its advocacy, education, research and patient engagement. Nancy shared, “It’s very important for the patients to see how much progress has been achieved in 50 years and then understand there is more progress to be made.”

Make plans to join Nancy at the 2019 AAKP National Patient Meeting September 6th – 8th, 2019 in Washington, D.C.!
