AAKP 2019 National Patient Meeting – Meet the Planning Committee: Daronta Briggs

Daronta Briggs (Hampton, VA) was diagnosed with kidney disease in early 2008 and began hemodialysis that summer. He continued treatment until 2012, when he received a kidney transplant on October 24th. His journey didn't end there. Being a veteran himself (Gulf War of 1990-91), Daronta finds it very important to spread awareness about kidney disease, especially to veterans. Because of this, he even started his own organization called the Veterans Transplantation Association in August of 2016, in which he implemented a mentorship program for veterans currently on dialysis. Like most, Daronta recognizes the importance of motivating people in these tough times and tries to make a difference in their lives.

In 2017, Daronta became an AAKP Ambassador! He  is now very excited to serve on the 2019 AAKP National Patient Meeting Planning Committee.  This year, AAKP’s 44th National Patient Meeting: Driving Innovation & Changing the Status Quo will be held September 6 – 8, 2019 in Washington, D.C. Daronta attended his first AAKP Patient Meeting last year in St. Petersburg, FL, where he served on a panel for veteran related issues. This year, he is very passionate about helping people come together and realize that there is, in fact, life beyond dialysis and different treatment options to consider allowing you to live the life you were meant to. He continues to be an advocate for kidney disease, spreading awareness and encouraging people to take care of their kidneys.
