AAKP Support 5 Diamond Patient Safety Program

The American Association of Kidney Patients Endorses the End Stage Renal Disease Networks 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program

Tampa, FL – The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is pleased to announce its endorsement of the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Networks participating in the 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program. The ESRD Network of New England in collaboration with the Mid-Atlantic Renal Coalition developed the 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program to assist dialysis providers in increasing awareness and promoting and building a culture of safety among patients and staff.

The program has also been endorsed by the Renal Physicians Association (RPA), the National Renal Administrators Association (NRAA) and the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association. “Patient safety and quality of care are important to AAKP. This program promotes a culture of safety to end preventable patient harm by engaging, educating and equipping patient-care team to put evidence-based safe practices in place,” said AAKP Executive Director Gary Green.

The 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program is designed to focus on specific areas in need of improvement. The program has evolved into a national, automated, web-based program, which includes 15 program modules and is supported by 13 of the 18 ESRD Networks in the U.S., representing 73-percent of our patient population.
