Jonathan was diagnosed with pauci-immune glomerulonephritis when he was 22 years old and started peritoneal dialysis at age 23. He was on PD for 2 years before receiving a kidney from his sister Rachel on March 14, 2019 (World Kidney Day)! Jon completed his MS in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech before earning his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Mount Sinai in NYC, where he focused on mechanobiology of the kidney. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Nephrology at Mount Sinai, where most of his work involves understanding the mechanisms of kidney disease, especially glomerular diseases and podocytopathies. His long-term goal is to obtain a tenure-track position in a nephrology department.

Jon has experience in development and grant writing, having submitted his own research grants for funding and assisted in writing many grant submissions. He is currently on the data safety monitoring board of the Caring for OutPatiEnts after Acute Kidney Injury (COPE-AKI) study and is an active member of the Kidney Precision Medicine Project Consortia.

Jon has received the pre-doctoral training grant: T32 HD075735, “Interdisciplinary Training in Systems and Developmental Biology and Birth Defects”, ASN Kidney TREKS (Tutored Research and Education for Kidney Scholars) and ASN Kidney STARS (Kidney Week, 2024).
