My husband and I started this non-profit organization after experiencing the drastic effects of living with kidney disease. The news of my husband having end stage kidney disease hit us without warning and without anyone for us to look to or depend on. Kidney disease is running rampant and sadly, a lot of people are not aware of the causes, preventive measures and ways they could help the people that are suffering from kidney disease. The number of people that are diagnosed with kidney disease is growing at an alarming rate. Our organization is trying to make people aware of the disease, to clear up the misconceptions of the disease and being a living kidney donor and to encourage people to consider being living donors. We understand that it is sometimes difficult for patients to pay for treatments, transportation and medication. While we are not able as of now, our goal is to be able to help patients with these needs as well as any other needs that they may have. Because we realize that having the support of others is a great necessity for people who are living with kidney disease, we have started a support group for patients, family members, care givers and supporters. The first support group meeting will begin on May 16, 2015, 2:30pm – 4:30pm. After the first meeting, the regular monthly meetings will be held on the 2nd Saturday of every month. The meetings will be held at the Brooklyn Park Police Department, 7608 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Park, MN 55443.
