Medal of Excellence Recipients 

The Medal of Excellence is an AAKP legacy award that recognizes health care professionals who have contributed to the advancement and evolution of direct patient care, encouraged the expansion of the patient engagement model within the renal community and enhanced the quality of life for kidney patients and their families. These individuals have contributed to research, science and the advancement of care to positively impact the lives of those living with chronic kidney disease and their family members. Historically, the Medal of Excellence was awarded to a renal physician, however in 2014 AAKP expanded the award program to honor additional members of the healthcare team. This expansion allowed AAKP and the renal community to recognize all those who play an important role in helping patients overall health and wellbeing and live their best life possible.

Physician Category

Rebecca Schmidt, DO, FACP, FASN, is Section Chief and Professor of Medicine with Tenure for West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Medicine – Section of Nephrology and affiliate for Fresenius Medical Care-NA in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Nursing Category

Nancy Uhland, NP, is a nurse practitioner in the Renal Division of the George Washington Medical Faculty Associates in Washington, D.C. and works closely with kidney patients and their caregivers, including patients receiving kidney transplants through the George Washington Transplant Institute and community members engaged through the George Washington University Ron and Joy Paul Kidney Center.

Social Work Category

Wanda Driggers, LMSW, is a Fresenius Kidney Care Travel Consultant for the Myrtle Beach/Hilton Head, SC region. Ms. Driggers began her dialysis career in 2001 overseeing social work responsibilities for three clinics.

Dietitian Category

Stacey Adams, MPH, RD, CDN, is a Senior Renal Dietitian at The Rogosin Institute in New York, New York.
