National Patient Meeting


The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is pleased to announce the dates for its 44th Annual National Patient Meeting. The meeting will take place September 6 – 8, 2019 in Washington, D.C. at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill. The AAKP National Patient Meeting is the largest event of its kind in the U.S., providing both patients and care partners with access to the most accurate and timely disease information through direct interaction, educational sessions and an extensive exhibit hall.

The 2019 National Patient Meeting will be a milestone event for AAKP as the Association is celebrating its 50th Anniversary!

This year’s meeting agenda will focus on relevant information critical to those impacted by kidney diseases and highlight the latest in research and innovations in the renal space. AAKP will host a diverse line-up of speakers crossing all sectors of the kidney community including the Federal government; the U.S. Congress, academia; industry; allied kidney organizations and associations; patients and other various stakeholders.


Meeting Package Registration

The Meeting Package includes entrance into the exhibit hall, educational sessions, an attendee tote bag, souvenir items, and meals including: three breakfasts, two lunches, afternoon breaks and dinner during the Saturday evening Awards Banquet. Continuing education credits available for nurses, social workers, dietitians, and dialysis technicians with purchase of healthcare professional registration only.

  • Patient or Family Member Registration: $150/person
  • AAKP Life Member Registration - $99/person
  • Healthcare Professional Registration: $250/person

One-Day Registration

One-day registration is also available for Sept. 6, 7, or 8. One-day registration includes entrance into exhibit hall, educational sessions and scheduled meal(s) for selected day. Continuing education credits available for nurses, social workers, dietitians and dialysis technicians on selected day with purchase of healthcare professional registration only.

  • Patient or Family Member One-Day Registration - $75/person per day
  • Healthcare Professional Registration - $125/person per day


Patient/Family Member Scholarships

Limited scholarships for patients and family members are available. Scholarships cover only the cost of the meeting registration, additional expenses such as travel and lodging must be covered by the attendee. Not all submissions will result in a scholarship. Hotel Reservations

Hotel Reservations at the Hyatt Regency Washington

The group rate is $159/night and applicable for rooms booked between Sept. 4 - 9.  Reservations can be made by calling (877) 803-7534, please reference the AAKP 2019 Meeting to receive the discount. Reservations can also be made online. The deadline for reservations is August 16th or until the room block is full, so please make your reservation early! Once the room block is full and/or the deadline has passed, rooms will be available at the hotel’s going rate.

  • Union Station (Amtrak's headquarters): 3 blocks/8 minute walk
  • Reagan National Airport: 3.5 miles/10 minutes
  • Washington Dulles International Airport: 24 miles/35 minutes
  • Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport: 27 miles/50 minutes


Hotel Parking

Self-parking is not available at the Hyatt Regency Washington. Valet parking is $33 for 0-2 hours; $46 for 2-10 hours; and $62 ($66 for oversized vehicles) for 10-24 hours*.

*Overnight rates include in-and-out privileges.

Shipping Medical Supplies to the Hotel

Peritoneal Dialysis and Home Hemodialysis supplies can be shipped directly to the hotel. Label boxes with guest name and “AAKP Patient Meeting Attendee Medical Supplies.” The Hyatt is waiving all hotel fees for attendee medical supply boxes. To ensure you will not be charged, please label boxes appropriately. AAKP is not responsible for any charges for mislabeled boxes.


In-center Dialysis Appointments


Attendees requiring dialysis are encouraged to make their arrangements prior to AUGUST 1 and MUST identify themselves as an AAKP Meeting Attendee when making arrangements.


For registered meeting attendees using DaVita or Fresenius Medical Care, transportation to and from dialysis from the meeting hotel (Hyatt Regency Washington DC) is provided by AAKP.  If an attendee misses the provided transportation to their dialysis treatment, the attendee is responsible for finding and paying for their own transportation to and from the dialysis facility.  AAKP can only guarantee transportation for patients who make their dialysis appointments by contacting one of the providers listed and are assigned to the dialysis units selected for AAKP meeting attendees.  Each dialysis provider will provide patients with a detailed schedule of their dialysis appointment including the specific time and location to meet their transportation.
