Scholarships Available for Kidney Patients National Meeting

The American Association of Kidney Patients Announces Scholarships for Patients and Family Members Attending National Patient Meeting

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the American Association of Kidney Patients is pleased to announce that scholarships are available to attend its 41st National Patient Meeting to be held in Nashville on September 25-27.

To encourage patient involvement and collaboration, AAKP hosts a national patient meeting for kidney patients, family members, and healthcare professionals. This is a remarkable opportunity for patients, families and health professionals to come together for learning, sharing and advocacy.

“We are very fortunate to have a donor who sees the importance of providing patients the opportunity to learn more about their disease so that they may be able to take a more active role in their health care”, stated AAKP Executive Director Gary Green. “We are excited that many patients can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.”

The AAKP National Patient Meeting is taking place September 25-27 at the Nashville Airport Marriott in Nashville, TN. The meeting is a collaborative effort with support from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the Tennessee Kidney Foundation, and End-Stage Renal Disease Network 8, Inc., Home Dialyzors United (HDU), Northwest Renal Network and TransplantFirst Academy.

AAKP meeting attendees participate in discussions on a variety of topics; hear from researchers, patient experts and public policy leaders from across the nation. Dr. Doug Johnson, Vice Chairman of the Board for Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI), who has been instrumental in developing tools to ensure excellent patient outcomes, will serve as keynote speaker.

The meeting agenda includes topics for both patients and healthcare professionals:

  • The Future is Now – Innovations and Changes in Treatment and Care
  • The Kidney Disease Self-Management Toolbox
  • Understanding and Communicating with Your Healthcare Team about Your Healthcare Plan
  • Home Dialysis Therapies – An International Perspective
  • Advanced Care Planning – Bridging the Divide

Each scholarship will cover the cost of the meeting registration fee – $150. Submission of the application is not a guarantee of assistance. Scholarships are non-transferable.

To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be a current AAKP Patient/Family Member which is free and have another patient join the Association as a free patient/family member.
