THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF KIDNEY PATIENTS CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR ITS MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS – HONORING KIDNEY COMMUNITY EXCELLENCE

 Tampa, FL – The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is accepting nominations for the 2018 Medal of Excellence Award. The deadline for entries is November 15th.

The AAKP Medal of Excellence Program recognizes renal healthcare professionals in five categories: Physician, Nurse, Social Worker, Dietitian and Technician – who demonstrate the skills and compassion that reflect AAKP’s mission of providing patients with quality care in order for them to understand their condition, make informed decisions regarding their treatment plan, and achieve their aspirations.  Candidates for the award may be nominated by colleagues, patients in their home institutions or through professional affiliations. Candidates may also self-nominate.

“The AAKP Medal of Excellence Award is a prestigious element of the AAKP national strategy to recognize excellence within the kidney community from the perspective of those most impacted – kidney patient consumers,” stated AAKP President Paul T. Conway. “Patients whose health outcomes and lives are entrusted to kidney care professionals have very high standards of excellence and they know full well the difference between mediocrity and superior care.  Recipients of the AAKP Medal Excellence are in a separate league which we hope all kidney care professionals will aspire to join.”

Criteria for nominations should focus on ways in which an individual has substantively advanced patient-centered care approaches, demonstrated a long-term commitment to aligning care with patient aspirations, served as a visible and committed patient advocate; and created a lasting awareness and support for health education across the kidney community.

Nominations must be received by November 15, 2017. A selection committee is comprised of highly renowned healthcare professionals in the renal community, members of the AAKP Medical Advisory Board and past Medal of Excellence recipients.

Award recipients will be recognized throughout the 2018 year during a series of events and patient programs including:

  • The Annual Medal of Excellence Award Dinner hosted in conjunction with the Renal Physicians Association’s Annual Meeting;
  • Award presentations at the professional meetings of respective awardees;
  • Biographical article on career achievements featured in aakpRENALIFE magazine; and
  • Speaking opportunities during an AAKP Patient Education Program.
